What invariably happens is that students delete one of the decks when they add a new one. Ankiweb only keeps your most recent versions as far as I see. What if you installed a bad add-on 30 days ago that ruined everything. For add-ons there's no official support. Then you can't rely on anki's versioning because bad data will have overwritten all good data. That's not about Anki. It's about all your data in general.
