I have a 2016 Trail with KDSS. I changed the Front and rear differential fluid today along with the transfer case. I used Valvoline 75W-90 for all three and followed the instructions posted online from multiple sources. Unfortunately, this was the first differential fluid change at 75K miles so it was way overdue.

I do not feel like dealing with it but the dealer wants $60 per diff and $60 for the transfer case. $180 is ridiculously steep. I run 75W90 non-LSD synthetic, it's fine - it's the number before the W that's more important than the number after.

The amsoil long life synthetic fluid doesn’t seem to have a friction modifier in it so Im now considering that. Am I being too picky trying to find a diff fluid without friction modifiers in it?The seal from Toyota is ~$20 and takes maybe 30 minutes to swap out. Yeah you're supposed to change the brake shoes as well if they are saturated with diff fluid, but I often clean them good and don't have problems.
