The CellSpot is a Wi-Fi router with the same requirements as any other router; you need an internet connection and a Wi-Fi capable device. To use Wi-Fi calling and to get the router from T-Mobile for free, you need a phone that's capable of Wi-Fi calling. This is in contrast to a signal booster, which repeats the signal from the cellular network.
I switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and service has been great. I recently switched jobs and am working in relatively rural MD. The town itself has 5G and pretty great service. I'm doing it, and it's working, though my setup is not typical. I'll describe my setup, though it's a fairly long story.
