If you want to read classic X-Men comics, Chris Claremont's legendary 1975-1991 run is definitely the way to go. If you want to start with something a bit more modern, then I'd recommend picking up New X-Men by Grant Morrison, followed by Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon, from the early 00s. There are more good films in the franchise than bad. Logan, DOFP, First Class and X2 are some of the best in the Genre. The Deadpool movies were great. X1 and The wolverine are pretty good. Apocalypse and The Last Stand are bad/mediocre but have some great scenes in them. Honestly, X-men origins is the only truly terrible one.Anyway, the name Dark Star is for Dark Child and Star Child. As well as this, if the mcu rebooted the x men it could end up feeling very repetitive as well as possibly not living up to the previous performances of wolverine, professor x, magneto, Deadpool etc.The Xmen core locations have 3 of the same effects as the OG core locations. 1 effect is similar and a little better in the Xmen box. The other 4 blow the OG box out of the water. I will want to house rule something where we keep the locations mostly to the choosen villian. Otherwise we will never use the OG location.

X-Men Evolution had one of the best interpretations of Rogue. In X-Men Evolution episode 11, Xavier tells Logan they did a surgery on his brain to remove a control chip in Logan's brain. How would they access his brain given that he's got adamantium fused to his bones, hence his skull too ?

Giant-Size X-Men (1975) #1 - This is where the omnibus you mentioned started. It's the beginning of Claremont's epic run and is when the series was revitalized, introducing characters such as Storm, Wolverine, and Nightcrawler. Excellent place to start. New X-Men (2001) #114 - This is the beginning of Morrison's run.

Imo the movies only start to trend the "okay this is bad" after The Wolverine. But, Wolverine is the toughest to kill, and therefore has the most endurance. Beast would probably have the highest agility, and would therefore be able to avoid a lot of hits. Then, strategy wise, Cyclops would still be a tough opponent because he can do a lot of maneuvering in a fight.

And it replaced the tired Xavier vs. Magneto conflict that had run out of steam. Morrison had a great plan to take the X-Men in a new direction, with mutants developing their own subculture, to move past the tired "hated and feared" trope. New X-Men has the better concepts and peaks to me ( the Cassandra storyline is the best out of the two runs). Astonishing X-Men is more consistent and the easier reread. I give the edge to Astonishing only due to accessibility(for myself). I love the material in New X-Men more- I just don't think it reads as smoothly as Astonishing.
