This was purchased with a 6 inch barrel and has a blued finish. I believe this is a large frame revolver. The serial number is 26851-1. It is an original Smith & Wesson that is stamped "S W trade mark" on the out side of the pistol. On the left side of the barrel is stamped: "38 S&W CTG". The Serial # 514970 is on the butt. On the top of the barrel is stamped: "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. USA PAT'D MAY 11 1880 JAN 03 1882 APRIL 09 1889".

It should have "Made in USA" or a 4 line trade mark stamp like this one, stamped on the right side over the trigger guard.
