Why is madden taking out my starters.

Every game in franchise mode, my starters at a few positions (namely RB, WR, DL, and safety) come out after a few plays and never go back in. The only way I can get them back in is by auto-simming a play, but then it happens again after a few more plays. Magically all of my superstars disappeared when I made it to the playoffs in franchise mode as head coach. They're still on the team. Still in the depth chart. Not injured. But for some reason it has the backups in and the starters wont take the field. When I try to select the play by player all the plays are just non existent.
