It really is the exhaust heat shields, extensive on the Subaru because the exhaust is directly under the engine. NO PROBLEM with ticking after shutdown. The world has had this same ticking with exhaust systems forever, but the Foz is worse because of the large number of heat shields on it. A little bit more effort (dismantle door card etc.) but helps a lot. Also has a nice side effect of making your car doors sound more premium when closing. It'll add ~10-20kg to your car weight depending how much you add.
