r/DataHoarder wouldn't simply download a car. More like download it, categorize it, throw it on a NAS with ZFS, upload to Amazon glacier, ipfs, and back it up to local LTO tape for safe keeping. Or the whole motorway. There is simply no legal way to build any proper media collection without that. I hoard all kind of art related stuff. So mostly pictures of artworks of all kind. I think the majority of people on this sub aren't much "data hoarders", but rather "data archivists/organizers". Meaning, we don't just download everything, we just like to keep our original data forever (family photos/videos, documents) and download stuff we like and keep it for later rewatch/replay (movies/shows/games).if you enjoy hoarding stuff like this then it's worth it. 8GB of space for such a massive archive is really not that much, so it's not like it is costing you anything to archive them. My long term goals are to keep preserving and serving family photographs/videos and safely backup personal data, that's my number one priority.
