It was not my intent to dredge up all the old transmission temperature issues on the JK. I only wanted to know the temperature setting of the Trans Hot Oil Light. I have an aux trans oil cooler installed. Also checked for exhaust gasses in the fluid. Several time's.

Automatic transmission fluid level should be as follows, @ fluid temperature: Top "COLD" mark @ 70°F. Halfway between "HOT" & "COLD" @ 116°F. Bottom "HOT" mark @ 165°F. Near top "HOT" mark @ 200°F. If you get variable readings on the dip stick, it's most likely due to reading it at different temperatures.

I'm noticing my JK, the 3.6 sits dead center and mostly just a tick to the warm side. Took it for the first long distance trip today and during some prolonged hill climbs of PA roads where a low gear / high rpm was needed, the temp gauge would even drift over toward the 4/5 warm point.

Jeep made a change to the fan settings and the gauge read out at some point from what I understand.U might jack it up and check how free the wheels rotate. That would create some heat depending on how bad the caliper was sticking without necessarily much associated smell especially if your running ceramic pads. From what I can find the 3.6L V-6 takes a 203 degree thermostat. On hot days (temps in 90's plus), my Jeep would overheat while driving regardless of speed. Higher speeds didn't help cool it off. In older vehicles that had questionable cooling fans, you could just drive 50-60 and the airflow through radiator was enough to keep your engine happy. Not so in the JK. Particularly if you're running the A/C.

This is a common problem when doing any kind of cooling system work on a jeep. The JK is well known for being difficult to get all the air out of the system. Often times taking multiple attempts. If the engine is cooled down and your fan clutch is cool, it should NOT be engaged (much easier to spin by hand).
