O-Gauge has a significant advantage is as much as the train equipment is a nice size to handle and be able to see all of the details more closely. I have seen many very nice O-Gauge layouts in the size you describe. I am partial as I have been an O-Gauge guy for a very long time. I started with a 4x8 ft. layout and was very happy with it.
