My niece has a 08 Patriot and has had problems with the vehicle not engaging the starter when the key is turned to the start position. This happens either when the vehicle is in a cold start or warm start situation. I has never failed to start but she has to turn the key ...1. Something is telling the starter to operate when its not supposed to and the starter and wiring is fine. 2. The solenoid control wire is shorted to power somewhere. 3. Garbage aftermarket starter. The thing that tells the starter to engage is the skim module (thing you put the key in).After installation and a couple of tests, I had to jump start the battery to get the Jeep Patriot 2016 going. When it finally starts it only runs from 30 seconds to 6 minutes before it stalls again. Still no start. I did have a corroded relay pin in the relay box behind drivers side headlight. Replaced that and fixed that... Still no start. Changed battery terminals and tip on the plug that goes on the starter. Still no start. Attached socket to crank bolt the engine turns fine. Still just a single click.
