2 posts · Joined 2023. #29 · Jan 8, 2023. I know this is an old thread, but I am experiencing the same problem as the OP. 1999 GMC Suburban, 5.7L. Broke a fuel line while trying to replace the fuel filter (thought that was the reason for no start) Got that fixed, but ran rough and stalled on idle.
Firmly holding the rounded end of a screw driver handle down into the spark plug holes while someone cranks the engine should give you enough indication. Best case, you have a loose or broken wire some where. Most of the time they have to be sent out for repair. Fuel pressure should be over 42psi and hold.A quick search indicates that P0017 is crank position sensor/cam position sensor misalignment. Worst-case would be a broken timing chain; which might lead to a bunch of bent valves. There could be other things that set that code.
