Titewad powder load data.

I've been loading very light 12 gauge loads many years--in the beginning to lessen recoil but now also to save on lead costs. The only powders I've found for consistent 3/4 oz loads in the 1200 to 1275 fps range are WW AA Lite and Alliant Extra Lite. Tightwad is real good for 1oz and ok for 7/8 oz. Just my experience.

To get a good crimp, you need a compact powder, and Tightwad works well. It makes a nice soft 1150 fps shotshell. My only gripe is that it is very prone to static electricity.

In Johnson and Haven's 1943 book Ammunition, the authors report the wadcutter was developed by Himmelwright in 1900 and became commercially available in 1910. The development resulted in a mid-range target load with a 148-grain wadcutter at 770 fps. This is very much like the load we have today. Avid reloaders and shooters often head out to the range with multiple calibers of firearms. It is very easy to grab the wrong caliber and insert it into the gun. If the caliber just does not fit, this is simply embarrassing. Although in some combinations, loading the wrong caliber into the gun can have dire consequences.
