Just a thought, but the only way to access Firelink in ds3 is through a bonfire. Bonfires are pretty uncanny with the way they let you warp through them. and I'm thinking now, what if they let you warp through time aswell? In that way ds3's firelink being in the past and inhabited by people from the future would make at least some sense.
The original one is in a different place. I think "Firelink Shrine" refers to "a shrine where the Fire is/was linked" rather than one, specific, unchanging place. So yeah, it's not the same one as the one from DS1. Firelink Shrine of DS3 looks more like Nexus than Firelink of DS1. And DS3 Firelink Shrine built on lordvessel.
