I think it might be because houses we are looking at are 400-450k and it's such a lot of money! Also constant rumbles that the market is going to crash (hasn't yet), etc, interest rate rises. There was a rally in Cardiff on this issue over the weekend.

There is no way to buy an EU citizenship just by purchasing a property in Spain or Portugal. You can, I believe, ‘invest’ about €500k in Malta and get a Maltese passport but that ‘investment’ is money that you pay to the government.
